Runtile vs Strava: companion, not replacement

Strava is the social home of running and a fine recorder. Runtile is a private stats view of the runs in Apple Health. Most Runtile users keep Strava. Here is what each does that the other does not.

What Strava does well

  • Recording on the phone and Apple Watch, with a huge community.
  • Segments, leaderboards, kudos, clubs and challenges.
  • Maps, heatmaps of routes, route planning.
  • Gear tracking, if you remember to pick shoes.
  • A subscription with training log, relative effort, fitness and freshness.

Where Runtile is different

  • Running only totals that include every source. Strava's totals are per sport too, but only for what is in Strava. Runtile reads Health, so an Apple Watch run, a Garmin run and a Strava run all land in the same total.
  • A year in tiles coloured by pace. Strava has a training calendar. Runtile has a picture.
  • Shoes that assign themselves. Strava asks after every run. Runtile assigns by date and lets you correct, and imports your Strava gear history so nothing is lost.
  • Was this a good run for me. Runtile compares each run with your recent runs of the same distance. Strava compares you with the leaderboard.
  • No account, no upload. Runtile has no server. Your runs never leave the phone.
  • Lower price, your choice of plan. Runtile is free to start. Pro is $2.99 a month, $14.99 a year with a 7 day free trial, or $29.99 once for life.

Questions

Can Runtile show my Strava runs?

Yes, if the Strava app writes to Apple Health, which it does for runs recorded in the Strava app. Runs uploaded to Strava from a Garmin or Coros watch need that brand's own Health sync.

Does Runtile have segments, kudos or clubs?

No, and it never will. Runtile has no server and no social layer.
