Your runs stay on your phone.
The short version
- No account, no sign up, no login.
- No Runtile server. Everything is worked out on your iPhone.
- No analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and no third party code that does these things.
- Runtile reads your runs from Apple Health and never changes your Health data.
- The only thing that leaves your phone is where a run starts and finishes, sent to Apple Maps to show the place name (details below).
- Purchases are handled by Apple.
- If you join the launch list on this website, your email is kept by Buttondown to tell you when Runtile is out.
We do not collect, store, sell or share any personal data. On the App Store, Runtile's privacy label is Data Not Collected.
Apple Health
With your permission, Runtile reads from Apple Health: running workouts and their routes, walking and running distance, heart rate, step count, running speed, power, stride length, vertical oscillation and ground contact time, workout effort ratings, and your date of birth (to estimate your maximum heart rate for heart rate zones).
This data is used only to show your statistics inside the app and its widgets. A copy of the numbers Runtile works out is kept in the app's private storage on your iPhone, so the app opens quickly. The App Store version of Runtile does not write to Apple Health. Health data is never used for advertising and never shared.
You can change or remove access at any time in the Health app under Sharing, Apps, Runtile.
Place names
To show where a run happened, for example "Eixample, Barcelona", Runtile asks Apple's geocoding service (part of Apple Maps) for the names of the places where the run started and where it finished. This happens once per run, when you open it, and the answer is saved on your phone. Only those two points are sent: not your route, not your name, not any other data. Apple handles the request under the Apple Privacy Policy. This is the only time Runtile uses the network.
Data you enter
Your shoes, shoe assignments, goals and settings are stored on your iPhone, in the app and in a shared container its widgets can read. They are included in your normal iPhone backup. If you import a Strava export, the file is read on your phone, only the shoe information is used, and the file is not kept.
Photos
When you make a story to share, you can pick a photo. Runtile only sees the photo you choose, uses it to draw the image on your phone, and does not keep it.
Sharing
Share cards, stories and stickers are made on your phone and handed to the standard iOS share sheet. You choose where they go. Runtile does not send them anywhere itself.
Notifications
Optional notifications, such as asking which shoes you wore or telling you a pair is close to retirement, are scheduled on your iPhone. No push server is involved.
Purchases
Runtile Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment. Runtile only checks with StoreKit on your device whether Pro is active and never sees your name, Apple Account or payment details.
Deleting your data
In Runtile, Settings, Delete all Runtile data removes your shoes, assignments, goals and preferences. Deleting the app removes everything it stored. Your Health data is not affected.
Children
Runtile does not collect data from anyone, including children.
Launch emails
If you sign up on this website to hear when Runtile launches, your email address is stored by our newsletter provider, Buttondown. It is used only to tell you about the launch and major news about Runtile. You confirm your address before you are added, every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time. This list has nothing to do with the app: the app still collects no data.
This website
runtile.app is a static website. It sets no cookies and uses no analytics or trackers. The launch sign-up form sends only the email address you type to Buttondown. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for a short time for security and reliability.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. Because Runtile collects no data, a change can never apply to data collected before it.
