Import your Strava shoe history into Runtile
Request your Strava archive, open the zip in Runtile, and your gear assignments are matched to the runs in Apple Health. What gets matched, what gets skipped, and what is never overwritten.
Years of shoe history in Strava should not be lost when you start using another app. Strava lets you download everything you ever recorded, and Runtile can read the gear column out of that archive.
1. Request your archive from Strava
This is done on the website, not in the app.
- Sign in at strava.com and open Settings.
- Click My Account.
- Under Download or Delete Your Account, click Get Started.
- Click Request Your Archive.
Strava emails you a link within a few hours, sometimes a day. The archive is a zip with an activities.csv file and your GPS files.
2. Open it in Runtile
- In Runtile, open the Shoes tab and tap Have Strava? Import your shoe history. The same entry lives at the end of shoe setup and in Settings.
- Tap the file card and pick the zip or the
activities.csvfrom Files.
Runtile unpacks the archive on the phone. Nothing is uploaded.
3. Check the summary and apply
Before anything changes you see:
- Matched runs. Strava rows of type Run with a gear name that match a Health run. Matching is by start time within three minutes (Strava times are UTC), falling back to same day plus distance within five percent.
- Shoes found, with a run count each and whether the pair already exists in Runtile or will be created.
- Skipped rows. Runs not in Health, walks, rides, rows without gear.
- Overwrites. How many guessed assignments will be replaced, and how many confirmed ones are kept. Anything you confirmed by hand in Runtile is never touched.
Tap the one button. New pairs are created with their first run as the start date, matched runs are assigned as confirmed.
Questions
Does the import create runs?
Never. Runtile only reads gear names from the archive and attaches them to runs that already exist in Apple Health. Rows without a matching Health run are skipped and counted.
Do I need the whole zip?
No. The activities.csv file from inside the archive is enough. The zip works too and is unpacked on the phone.
What happens to shoes I already added?
Strava gear with the same name, ignoring case, is matched to the existing pair. Other gear becomes a new pair with its first run as the start date.
